Default Cooling fan

Long story for a short problem...

A few weeks ago I was changing the oil filter when I noticed after removing the access panel on my 2004 4.7 there was an electrical connection that had come loose. It wouldn't stay snapped together so I put it back together and taped it good. Immediately after that the electric cooling fan began running any time I had the key turned on.

I hadn't heard the fan before. It ran all the time. It was warm enough that I always had the air conditioning on.

Last week it quit running.

The connection is still together so any ideas why it would quit? Should the fan be running all the time?

seems to me..
when the a/c is on the electric fan stays on...
otherwise it only kicks in when the temp gets too hot for just
the mechanical clutch fan to cool things..

I was under the impression that the cooling fan should run as you say.

I am going to replace a fuse on the PDC and see if that doesn't make a difference.

As I said, I only fixed the connection and drove the truck while it was warm enough that I always had the AC on so I can't say if it truly ran all the time.

This might be a time for me to break down and pay the deductible on the warranty.

why dont you let the truck cool all the way down, then start it up when it is cold. see if it runs then. you say it quit running. did it quit all together? your fan shouldn't be running until your motor reaches an operating temp that requires the fan. (your fan should be running whenever you are running AC)

I can't get it to run at all. I replaced the fuse on the PDC and still nothing.

have you looked to see where the connection leads? start closer to the problem than the PDC. If one connection has come lose, maybe another has as well.

Yeah, that's my next move. I am going to re-check my original fix and then check other connections. I am also going to try putting 12 volts directly on the fan to see if it will move. The fan will spin by hand so I know the motor isn't locked up.

I have the service manual but can't make sense of all the diagnostic tests they list.

I won't work too terribly hard my warranty deductible is only $100
