Default Stock 99 Dakota looking for suggestions

I have bone stock 5.2v8 1999 Dodge Dakota Club Cab with 48,000 miles. The lower exhaust system might last me one more winter but is real rusty and the muffler is starting to come apart. I'll be looking for after market for a replacement. The only exhaust I typically use on my other cars is Flowmaster. What's recommended and why.

Also, I'm sure it time for new igition parts again and I'd like to get some recommendation on plugs, wires, and cap and rotor.

Thanks in advance.

If you want an aggresive sound and less restriction definately go with the Flowmaster 40 series. You won't be disappointed. Spend the extra money and get the stainless one. That way it won't rust out.

wow, your truck is EXACTLY the way mine was when i first bought it 3 months ago. ill list my mods, made a huge difference and i think you should do them in this order.

1. Full tune up, made biggest difference. spark plugs, wires, cap & rotor and iridium spark plugs (platinum's are almost as good if you don't want to spend the money) $125
2. full airaid cold air intake. probably the best bang for the buck. $60 used on e-bay
3. flowmaster 40 muffler (not sure if i got performance increase or not but i love it) $175 installed
4. under drive pulley from summit. noticeable increase in power, better power steering feel and 2MPG gain on freeway $50 from summit, need a new belt too!
5. superchips tuner. haven't gotten it yet, in the mail $190

stock this truck dyno's at 183HP at the rear wheels according to K&N. i would imagine im putting down between 200-210 and im getting 22MPG on the freeway

I don't know if I'll run the iridium plugs in the Dakota but I use NGK Iridium's on my 90 Super Coupe because the plugs in that boy are just plain hard to replace. The 95 Super Coupe has PP Motocraft plugs and their only 2 weeks old.

I was more looking for the best sucess with igition tune-up parts and what brands. Also my entire cat back system needs to be overhauled so the exhaust alone is going to cost me big bucks. The underdrive and Cold air intake sound cool. I use uderdrive pulley on my 90 Super Coupe and yes, the motor thanks me every time I drive it.

MSD makes a high performance distributor cap and wires, probably as good as it gets for tune up parts. i was going to get them but they were special order, twice the price of the OE parts and i didnt feel like waiting. keep in mind the stock cat IS a high flow and anything past the muffler as far as exhaust pipes go is cosmetic. i just replaced the muffler and ran the exhaust out the stock location
