trying to decide what crate to drop in my 97 Dak
Whats your thoughts? I'm kinda undecided as to what to drop in my 97 Dakota, carb, TBI 5.7, 5.9 I'm just not sure something not Mopar?
Any idea's? i would like something ready to drop in. besides a few mods but i do not want to have to do anything to the crate motor, i want it ready to go. and have Ball's
Thanks for your opinion

No, it won't. Plus you'll need to get the wiring harness and ECU and then figure out if it'll work with the tranny.
The 5.7 Hemi is overrated, and for $7400+ you could build a HELL of a 360-based stroker. Get a 360 block, 4" stroker crank, and build the bastard. Somewhere over 400 cubic inches and with any skill at all you'll have far more than 360hp.

I want something ready to drop in, i do not want to have to build it, but don't mind adding mod's i just don't have the spare time to sit in my garage and build a motor from the ground up, I'm all for a new trans as as most Dodge owner's will say there trans suck!
but can get a stock 5.9 from Dodge and it will pretty much fall into place besides a change to the bracket's and can use my old TB but not sure that's the way to go.
i also don't mind having someone build me a monster for it either
know of anyone? and willing to ship
there has to be options for a complete crate's that will work, know of any besides the stock 5.9?
Thanks
Joe

unless you have 7K I wouldn't do it, 7K for engine then 2-4K on Trans, then a grand or two on installing for that kinda stuff....
although, i saw some Dakotas with ram Hemis in them, there pretty sweet, 345HP stock, put air and exhaust on and it'll be ready to go, thats alotta HP in a Dakota, but u can find hemis for around 3-5K with warrentys, used and maybe new I think, you'll hafta find a shop that can fit it in.
Man if you have the money i'd do it! look around your town at shops.
this one shop even put new Ram Hemis in Jeeps for around 5-12K. depending on what u wanted.

Il be installing it myself, i wont pay someone to do it, that would be a waist, and allot of coin for some other extra goodies
was just trying to get some opinions from some mopar guy's that have replaced there stock motor's
but if i can save some time by buying a complete rocked out crate then that's my goal, but in the end if i have to build it myself then so be it.
i was a tech for Ford for over 10 years and a tech for GM for over 3, then a few mah and pa shops and then went into the motorcycle industry. got sick of working on everyone's crap, bad enough on my own.
and 10K is nothing compared to a car payment on a new car. i am more then willing to put in the coin that needs to be as long as i don't have another car payment LOL [sm=gears.gif]

ok check out this site. www.gsmotorsports.com im pretty sure you can get drop in 408's and other options shipped to your house. best of all a motor based off the 360 block wont need a different tranny.
