I'm in the market for a 2nd gen dakota (99 or newer because of loan constraints) and I have a few questions. My budget is up to about $8k-9k. That leaves me with basically just the 2x4 6 cyl models.

I live in the midwest, I don't 4-wheel (I have a raptor for that) and I have a bit of a commute, so the lack of 4x4 and the more fuel efficient motor don't hurt my feelings... although I do like v8's and 4 wheel drive...

Anyways, all I need the truck to do is haul my Raptor 660 to the track and get me to work without killing my wallet. Will a v6 dakota do that for me? Will the V6 pull a quad OK?

Are there any problems with these models maybe in a particular year or something that I need to look out for? I'm looking at an 02 4x2 v6 auto right now. It's a blue sport and I think I can get it for a little less than $8k from a co-worker.

Any thoughts?
