Default V6 to V8

hey guys

I have a dakota 3.9,manual, and I have a 5.2,auto, engine with everything. Ive been reading and some people say they bolt right in and jus hafta splice The ECU harness for the extra two Fuel injectors. But I have the harness and ECU n everything for it.
Right now the 5.2 is in a 99 ram van, I was wondering if the engine would work with my Manual Trans? I was hoping the engine would work with my trans. Cause I prefer Manual but if it dousn't work I can still use the Auto trans that is with it.

The 5.2 only has 70K miles and he'll give it to me(family) cause he wants a 360 in his.

Anyone ever done this or know anything about it?
Also i'm going towards buying this 66 mustang n dropin a carb. 5.0 in it instead of the whole dakota thing.

thanks.

I do not know off hand, but from other asking about the same thing, it sounds as if it is not an easy swap. New tranny, wiring harness, computer, mabye more....I bet if you do a search there is alot of info out there.

well, actually since its a 318 from technicly a Ram, im going to find a 318 out of a Dakota and have a friend of mine install it.

I've been researching it, but I wanted to see if anyone on here knows much about it. On one forum, a guy said he just spliced the wires for the extra two Fuel Injectors and still used the V6 ECU and the new V8 bolted right in.

The 318 in the Ram is the same 318 in the Dakota.....

The 3.9L V6 is actually a chopped down block of the 5.2L V8....so yes it will bolt in no problem. Since your running a manual tranny, I think you can get away with bolting it up directly to the 5.2L V8. Not 100% sure...but I think the trans is the same as well..

As for the ECU, I'm not sure about that....but I would think it might be wise to try and get the ECU for the V8 instead...

Ok, so I can get a 318 out of a Ram too... cool. Ya I always thought my V6 resembled the V8.

ALSO I researched trannys and the V6 is a NV3500 and for the V8 it uses the NV3500... YES, so hopefully no trans swap, just need a engine and a ECU.

Thanks!
any more info??

I would reccomend simplifying things and getting a wiring harness from a V8 dakota too. Save yourself and your friend a wiring headache.

also make sure the balancing is correct, I know the 360's are externally balanced, & the 318's internal. what i'm not sure of is if there is a difference between manual & auto so do some research on it otherwise you may end up with a bad vibration...
