Shift Indicator Light

Shift Indicator Light
Just bought a 2004 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab Sport 5 speed and I read in the manual that the shift indicator light is meant to come on. I've put the rpm's to 4-5k and still the light has never come on. Am I missing something or is this feature broken on my truck.
Many Thanks!

RE: Shift Indicator Light
It came on in the first gen Dak I drove a long time ago even under accelleration. It was annoying.
Tachs in an auto are only useless if you've never really used your truck. Yeah, you can drive by ear, but you can do that with a manual tranny as well - people still want a tach. It's all about knowing what your truck is doing. With my Ram I've got a 3-speed auto and doing 80 down the freeway it sounds like it's rapping out at 5000rpm. Toss a tach in and you know it's actually closer to 3500.

RE: Shift Indicator Light
I agree horatio102. I also see where RP Racing940 is coming from.
I've used mine to see engine RPM at highway speed in 4th vs. 3rd. (Quite a differance at some speeds!)
When accelerating in the city, I don't go above 2K RPMs.
I can see what my idle speed is.
I dunno, I just like having a tach.
