Default Over reving

I don't know any way to put this other than my 99 dakota (manual xmission) Magnun V6 tends to over rev.
When I first hit the gas the rpms go up and the engine roars. THen the rpms settle down but the engine continues to roar.
Push in the clutch with no gas and it revs up then settles down.

The engine did this all last winter then over the summer it quit and seemed to be running normal. Had someone tell me the throttle body gasket or intake gasket may be leaking air. Checked it by spraying starting fluid while it was reving to no avail.
Now that the weather has cooled the problem is back. In Sept. when the weather warmed up the problem never went away.

Any ideas?

possibly your throttle cable is too tight.

since the RPM's are dropping and your still hearing the motor i would suspect that in cold weather your fan clutch is sticking. the fan makes more noise than anything else in there and isn't directly related to engine RPM. theres a test procedure for checking the fan clutch in your manual. you DO have the manual dont you[sm=signs007.gif]

This sounds like a possible solution and I will test it.
My concern is that the roar is always there and the rpms jump up 1500 rpms whenever the load is taken off the engine. Whenever I push in the clutch.

Thanks for your help

The sound could be because it is cold. Does it still do it when the engine is warmed up?

Yes the roar is there all the time the revs are when the load is off the engine.
It jumps up the 1500 rpms then settles down to normal.

Thanks
