Shouldn't the a/c clutch only engage when the a/c is turned on? Just curious cause mine comes on and off no matter what setting I have the heat-a/c **** set to other than the off position. I probably wouldn't even notice it other than the fact that it's noisy when it kicks in.

I know that it will kick in under the defrost setting (you know, going to the windshield) and that is normal.
If its not in defrost and you don't have A/C selected, do the following:
Select the defrost setting and than go back to the setting you want it at. If it still runs, than turn the A/C on for a second, and than turn it off.
If that doesn't work, you probably have a crossed wire, and the computer thinks you want the A/C to be on.
A quick fix would be to disconnect the electrical connector from the compressor (or remove the compressor clutch relay). Of course, you would want to find the source of the problem.
