Default RE: steering wheel noise

My truck did that for a while too. then one day while backing into a parking spot the steering wheel became really hard to turn, and when I put some more effort into it I heard a really bad cracking noise and something behind the wheel let go because I could steer with normal effort again. When I took it in they told me it was the clock spring behind the steering wheel. And fixed it for free because it was a known issue from dodge. At least thats what the shop told me. As how to fix it i have no idea.
