Default Newbie's question.

What's up to all!

I'm a noob to the forum, but not to cars and trucks. I'd like to say "hi" with a question........

I'm wanting to install the OEM trip computer/compass in my '00 SLT Ex-cab. While I was installing my sound system, I had the door panels off and noticed that I had the wiring/connector for the Infinity tweeters, even though I had the low grade non-Infinity cass. deck. Also, while installing wiring for amps under the floor carpet, I noticed the wiring/connector for the center console with the power outlet(?), even though I have a 40/20/40 setup. So, I decided to remove the upper center console to see if an additional connector was there, maybe for the trip computer. I think it does have it!

So, here is the question. Is my truck already pre-wired for all the options? And, if I do have the connector for the trip computer/compass already wired, is the install as simple as buying the unit, installing it and plugging it in? Seems like a smart move on DC to prewire everything in the vehicle.

Thanks for any help given. Looks like a great site!

Jammer.

It's a common practice these days to have 1 wiring harness that goes into every chassis - makes it much easier to mass assemble cars and add options as they're needed, versus having to select the right harness, chassis, and then options. Plus it's cheaper for inventory, storage, and supply. 500k of 1 item is cheaper to buy and track than 250k of 2 items.

yeah that makes sense but I dont know if it's common thru all the lines... my '05 does not have the wiring for the fog lamps for which I was looking to install a while back... now i'm glad it didnt have it as i'm looking to use the fog light holes for other things such as air flow to the air box & possibly out to the brake disks.

Thanks for the reply, guys.

Would anyone still know if I can just buy the unit and plug it in? Or maybe know the part# for it?
