2001 Dakota backfires and runs rough cold
Hello hope someone can give me an idea where to start i have an 01 dakota that when cold runs really rough and backfires. when it warms up it will sometimes run with no issues and other times will backfire and loses power in the sense of loses power i mean it wont pick up speed as it backfires. sometimes its worse than others but seems to be getting steadily worse. i have replaced an O2 sensor several months ago im not sure if this has anything to do with it or not however it was a factory part and not after market. i believe it was the driver side before the catalytic convertor this may be not relevant but figured i should at least bring it up. also no check engine lightis on so therfore no codes to check. please help as this is my main vehicle to get my family around and me to work. and im currently broke and unable to take to a shop. *crossing fingers its something simple*
Well, i will try to logic this out for you. Sicen you had no prolbems before replacing the O2 Senesor, and had problems after. I would guess that while replacing the sensor something got scrwed up[sm=happy046.gif]
hmm my quad does the same exact thing... then again i go through spark plugs like my dakota goes through gas, how long ago have u done a spark plug job?.. plugs wires, rotor, cap, try using different fuel too, thats all thats clicking in my mind at 2 am
^ good call i realy dont think a o2 would cause that, but ive been wrong before id go with fox, do a tune up...from experence it wounds like either a bad wire or plug...
o2s can make your truck die at low RPM but not backfire.
More then likely you have burnt plugs or wires, and need to be replaced, and while your at is do the cap/rotor. While your at it, get some oil and do an oil change and change the fuel filter.
