Default 2000 DAKOTA SPORT STARTING PROBLEM

This is the 2000 Dakota Sport 4.7 4x4. I just bought this truck. It only has 20,000 miles. When I go to start the truck it turns over for 6 seconds before starting, but if I turn it over for 2 seconds let off and try again it starts right up. Can anyone help with this problem

From now on, when you go to start, simply move the ignition forward until your accessory lights come on and you here your fuel pump finish priming. It typically takes about 2-3 seconds for your fuel pump to fully prime. Then turn the motor over. Let us know if this solves your problem.

Hi Chris I've tried that it does'nt work. I think the problem has something to do with the truck not being drove. I just bought it from a older lady who only put 20K on the truck in 6 years. any suggestions?

My next suggestion then would be to do a tune-up. Go buy some new spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor and give the throttle body a nice cleaning. If you are familiar with working on cars, this should take you no more than a couple of hours to complete; and being a DIY (Do It Yourself) job, it will be relatively inexpensive compared to having a shop do it. Let us know if this clears your problem up.

Also, using some injector cleaner couldn't hurt!
