i believe there is a small C shaped clip holding it on. you may need a flat blade or small needle nose plyers to get it.

Yeah its a pain in the ***. Theres a little clip in there, shaped like a C with some notches in it. I just took a hammer and pried the handle away from the door enough to see where it was. Once you see the end of the little clip, you have to push it down the slot (sortof around the crank.. its hard to explain) to get it to pop off. Do yoruself a favor and wear some safety glasses cause when it comes off, its coming off.. one of mine almost popped me in the eye.

i found that the easiest way to get those off is to pry the handle away a little so that you can see the c shaped clip then grabe it with a j shaped pick, this is so simple this way.

If you go to any parts store, they should carry a tool designed just for that. I have one, but I got it so long ago, I dont remember where it came from or how much it costs, but it couldn't be more than a couple bucks.
