Default Proper TV cable adjustment

I recently took my dakota into a shop and the mechanic told me the cable was streched to the limit so he adjusted it as far it could go but that didn't work properly so I went and bough the new tv cable but it has a button rather than a clip. The button is so hard to press that it is rediculus. But i was thinking there was a problem in my tranny but it seems it is just the tv cable, now I need to know how to adjust to the proper length. I tried and tried but still no go does anyone have a good solution for me? also for this button anyone have this issue? How do I fix it also, Does anyone know what kind of socket I can use to tighten my front band, there is no torx thing on it so I need a square socket. I just need some help

Thanks
Chris

ps the manual way of adjusting seems to be no help to me.
