winter gas.

it sucks.

You arent going to lower the engine temp enough to keep it inchoke mode just by running a CAI. You may, however, find that you're running lean, due to the colder denser air, but this should be compensated for by the IAT.

in the winter time you will allways use more gas. they put more ethanol for some stupid reason. your iat sensor still will funtion properly once the engine compartment heats up. in the winter time the engine compartment helps out the iat sensor. thats why in the summer people relocate it away from the heat coming off the engine. and yes winter gas just sucks.

When the IAT senses very cold air (IIRC anything below 35 degrees) your timing will automatically be advanced; causing more fuel to be used. That's why you see those "SUPER HORSEPOWER CHIP" items on eBay. All they are doing is putting a resistor in your IAT sensor to fool it into thinking that it is really cold outside; which advances your timing (within spec).

hmm, so last night driving home it was between 15 and 18 degrees most of the trip, still got over 300 miles on the tank. If that's crappy mileage then the K&N and hypertech really made a big difference and I can't wait for warmer weather.

RE: hmm cold weather and CAI?
my average on a tank of gas is about 380 miles. now that its colder out in ct, 30/35 degrees out im gettin around 350 to a tank. i let truck warm up for 30 seconds before i drive it. and yes anything under 180 degrees for a thermostat will leave the truck in open loop. which is bad. closed loop is where the sensors will determine the correct settings for optimal performance.

RE: hmm cold weather and CAI?
honestly i have bee nthinking about this and i am not getting the correct milage per-say the trip meter anyway
i am running 32x11.50's on my dakota and with them being taller will make the speedo read slower so there for i am traveling further then the trip is saying
just wish i had the cash to replace the 32's with the stock 31's because i do not go off road and would sooner have the stock look .
getting old guess

so if someone lives close too me and wants to swap 31's for 32's gimme a holla

I would think that a cai gives you better gas millage no matter what the temp. is. I was always under the impression that the colder it is out the better your gas millage would be.

hmmm that makes me wonder if I'm getting better gas milage then I think. I have 31's on mine as well, and often I do not get more then 320-350 per tank. The stock tire size is 235. Would that much of a difference cause fewer miles to show up on the odometer?

yes it will make a huge difference comparing a 235 to a 31"
