Hello, My 1997 Dakota is surging ( like a cylinder isn't firing) when in o/d going uphills or slight on inclines on the highway. I replaced the spark plugs, cap and rotor and wires and it didn't make any difference. But when I kick the throttle down it is fine. Do I have a bad tranny. The tranny color and smell is like new. The truck only has 48,000 miles the 5.2 is strong and very healthy. Any ideas?
Would a cankshaft position sensor do this?

also there is no check engine light on

 

have you tried cleaning your throttle body?

 

Well I believe if a cylinder was misfiring, It would send you a check engine light.. but changing the plugs would have fixed that.

Sorry, I'm pretty clueless now.. that would have been my first guess and my advice. Are there any other symptoms?

 

Yes I had a bad plenium gasket, so when I replaced the gasket everything was cleaned upon reinstallation, and yes it did this before the plenium gasket went out[:@]!

 

Today it was surging again, but when the truck was still cold it didn't to it???? But once it was warmed up the surging started again.
