Transmission Cooler??
I have a 99 dakota 2wd with 95,000 miles on it and I am contemplating putting a trans cooler on it. I have talked to a lot of people with dakotas and all say that my day is coming for a new transmission. I just bought in in October and have not had a trans flush yet. Would this help and then put on the cooler?? Or, is it pointless with this amount of miles. I have not problems with the tranny now, I would just rather pay 200 instead of 2000. Thanks
my 99 has the tow pakage, but it doesnt have the add on tranny cooler. I tow atleast acouple times a month with it and it has no problems. it has 205,000kms and I did a tranny flush last year.
Yea, with proper maintenance (and the right transmission fluid, ATF+4), these transmissions are supposed to be pretty good.
Like others have said, a few things ask yourself:
Do you tow much?
Do you live in a hot climate?
If you answered yes to at least one of those questions, it would not be a bad idea to get a transmission cooler. I would say if you answered yes to both of them, you should get one.
A transmission cooler will not hurt even if you don't "need" one.
I will probably add one some time later, and I don't tow, but I do live in a pretty warm (during the summer) area.
