Default Transmission Cooler??

I have a 99 dakota 2wd with 95,000 miles on it and I am contemplating putting a trans cooler on it. I have talked to a lot of people with dakotas and all say that my day is coming for a new transmission. I just bought in in October and have not had a trans flush yet. Would this help and then put on the cooler?? Or, is it pointless with this amount of miles. I have not problems with the tranny now, I would just rather pay 200 instead of 2000. Thanks

If you aren't doing a lot of towing, you don't need to install a trans cooler. A tranny flush would always be good though.

mine 98 dakota has 195000 miles on it and is still running the origional transmission so these trannys do last if they are maintained properly

Yea, with proper maintenance (and the right transmission fluid, ATF+4), these transmissions are supposed to be pretty good.

Like others have said, a few things ask yourself:
Do you tow much?
Do you live in a hot climate?

If you answered yes to at least one of those questions, it would not be a bad idea to get a transmission cooler. I would say if you answered yes to both of them, you should get one.
A transmission cooler will not hurt even if you don't "need" one.
I will probably add one some time later, and I don't tow, but I do live in a pretty warm (during the summer) area.
