Reverse lights out!

Reverse lights out!
Hey all, I'm new to the forum. I've owned a 2000 Club Cab V6 for about 3.5 years now, and I really like the truck. Sure, I wish it had more power, and a little more interior room (enough for an infant car seat in the back), but it gets pretty good gas mileage, and it is otherwise the perfect size for what I need.
I have several questions, but this is my first. I noticed that both reverse lights are not working. They used to, but it seems they have both gone out at the same time. I checked the fuse, and it look good. I saw another Dakota the other day with the same issue (it was backing out of a stall, and it's reverse lights weren't on)...so I wonder if this is fairly common?
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

RE: Reverse lights out!
I am assuming you have an automatic. I thought I had the same problem, but I figured it out. If you do not engage the shifter fully into reverse, the lights will not come on, but you will be driving in reverse. To test to see if this is the problem, have a friend stand behind (not directly behind because you don't want to kill them right?!?) the truck. Put it in revers, but don't move the truck. Then proceed to gently move the shifter back and forthwithout shifting out ofreverse. See if the connection is made to engage the lights. For a while mine would not come on. I went to change the bulbs in the lights, and they were both fine, as was the fuse. Give this a try and tell us what happens.
