Is there anyone that has any experiance with the Airaide Jr. on a 4.7L? I'm looking into a cheaper alternative to the full CAI system. Maybe it's worth the extra money for the full CAI? I would think just replacing the factory intake tube and filter that the Airaide Jr. offers would help quite a bit since the intake is already sucking cold air.

Sounds logic I think the stock Slinky looking airtube is a big restriction right there.Remember you only get a slight gain dynod with a heat shield.(And thats K&N that dynoed the gains not air rade)The dyno sheet comes with the K&N on purchase equiped with a heat shield.Who can say that the heat shield got those 4to5 extra horses. If you dont wont to spend the money try it out.Unless your planning on dynoing you wont tell a diffrence in performance either way with or without the heat shield. You can always make your own home brew heat shield later. The sound with still be just as good.

Oh and the air is not as cold as you may think in winter months Yes in summer No.The air it is sucking threw the wheel well is coming off or very close to the 90 to 100 degree road or blacktop combined with the allready hot summer air.The only true cool air without the heat shield would be the Ram Hood induction wich wood be eating air temps a good 3 to 5 feet from the hot Pavements.Without the Full CIA it will not be a cold air intake but a air intake it will still be. May the Force be with YOU hehe.

While this is slightly true, air temperature and surface temperature are two different things entirely. The only way intake air (in a CAI) would be reaching those temperatures is if the air itself is 90-100 degrees. While the surface temperature may be very hot, air would only be conducting the heat, at most, 6-10 inches away for the asphalt. Furthermore, this is in a situation where there is absolutely NO WIND.

What it boils down to is the temperatures encountered under your hood can be in excess of 180-200 degrees. The outside ambient air temperature will always be cooler and denser.
