fuel consumption

RE: fuel consumption
I ran my tank to the very red mark abd where my truck was kinda sputtering and then went to the gas station, I filled it up and it only took 11.5 gallons! 185.6 miles to that. I don't think it's a 16 gallon tank though, I don't have a manual. It does look like a small a$$ tank though

RE: fuel consumption
the truck wont run on .5 gallons of gas in the tank, its more than a 12 gallon tank i can garantee that, if i had to guess i would say 16 and you still had a couple of gallons left in the tank, but im not sure i havnt seen the truck or the tank so i really cant say with much accuracy, but call ur dodge dealer and give them ur vin and they can tell you how big ur tank is

the smallest tank on these trucks is the 16 gallon tank, look on the back of your manual it will tell you 16 gallon standard, 22 gallon optional, ive the the 22 gallon tank, and i can get like i said 300 out of 3/4 of a tank but thats me

RE: fuel consumption
I've got a question here then. I have a 22 gallon tank as quoted from the dealer, and at most when my gas guage is showing mty and the light comes on I can only squeeze 16.5 gallons in there at most. Thats with the gas comming out of filler neck at me. Whats the deal with that? I realise there's some air in there also and more depending on the angle I'm sitting at the pumps butfive and a halfgallons worth.

RE: fuel consumption
that is weird as my truck took about 18 at 1/8 of a tank left? so idk what ur doing, i mean thats b4 my light came on , unless my light is broken, and just so that you know the light is supposed to come on when there is about 3 gallons of gas left in the tank, so that would leave you with only 2 gallons worth of air space in you scenario

RE: fuel consumption
Hmm, Well my truck seems to be burning TONS of gas, Im not sure if it is the o2 sensor the cat converter anyone have an idea? When My truck is in gear, not in park, but sometimes when I got over 3-4 thousand rpm it will start to make like a rattling/grinding type noise, I thought it was my transmission the first time I heard it (Just rebuilt it) But it never did anything to the preformance and if that happened well it would be broken. Does anyone know? The check engine light has come on an off ever since I got it rebuilt, it was on then off and on and now off for awhile, but the grinding noise still happens and i get about 200 KM to 1 tank of gas, at about 55 L (About 15 gallons, and well it's not very much.) 120 miles around well I could use some help because that is a HELL load of gas.
Thanks

RE: fuel consumption
the light is different on every vehicle, it seems. mine varies greatly depending on load, teeny-tiny tanks seem prone to any angle change. anywhere from 10-13 gallons to fill in a 15 gallon tank.
example of inconsistent: there are four avengers in my household. one light comes on with 5 gallons left. identical year and package comes on with 3 gallons left. different year, same drivetrain - 4 gallons left. the four cylinder (same size tank) when on the last bar (that one might think to denote "dead empty") no light, but 3.5 gallons left. light or sensormay be broke on it, though, most things are.
btw- is there an option for one of those fuel computers? does anyone have one? a wealth of information can be had from such a thing, if accurate.

RE: fuel consumption
The only other thing I could think of is that I actually have an 18 gallon tank or something like that. It would be a little closer the the 15.5 gallons to fill the tank. The dealer listed mine as an option that the last owner bought to make it a 22 gallon tank. So either the dealer ripped the dude off or maybe he had to change the tank or something. At any rate I get 300 to 315 miles to a tank full in the summer. I think thats pretty good anyway, whatever size tank I have have. I'll see what I start getting once I get the 31's mounted though. right now I only have stock 215's on there.
