Default popping sounds?

Hi everyone, i've got a 1999 dodge dakota 5.2L 4x4
Myproblem is wheneverI step on the gas hard to accelerate my truck makes almost like a popping noise? but it only happens when my RPM' s reach 3K-4K, and as soon as my RPM's drop again it stops.would anybody be able to guess as to what the problem might be?
thanks

Sounds like detonation (spark knock). Check your plenum gasket. Look down into the throttle body with a flashlight. If you see oil in the bottom of the manifold, you'll need to swap the gasket. A bad plenum gasket can cause a lot of spark knock.
