starting problem 2001 5.9 v8
new to the forum, recently purchased 2001 dodge dakota 5.9 v8 4x4, had some rough running issues in beginning, engine codes helped me figure out that the 7&8 cylinder misfiring, changed all plugs and the two coils over the plugs. Now runs o.k once it's started, problem is getting started. I have to put it in the floor and crank till it starts, any ideas where to start. Usually starts right up warm, but if engine cools for more than 15 mins, hard to start again. Also exhaust smells real rich.
my 98 w/ 3.9 did almost the same thing, but mine would start ok w/o using the gas intermittenly, i would check the IAC valve on the back of the throttle body to see if it is clean and either clean, or replace it, but thats just my .02
