Wonderful write-up, wish I would have seen it before I started in on mine. In any event, mine went pretty well, sans snapping vacuum lines left and right. A little washer tubing should take care of that.
My one question is this - I somehow pulled a red/black wire out of somewhere. It's wrapped to the same bundle that connects directly behind the 4wd shifter, but doesn't go into that plug. For the life of me I can't figure out what it goes to. Any ideas? I'll try and grab a snapshot of it tomorrow - I've got about 7 hours in a frigid garage under my belt, and can't bear the thought of going back outside. 3 degrees with a garage that my truck won't fit all the way in to, isn't heated or insulated, with a 10mph wind is not the ideal condition to work in.
I actually tried having a few beers, and I'd set it down for 20 minutes, come back and it was frozen. After the third one that ended up 2/3 frozen I decided that I would just have to enjoy one after I got back inside.

Thanks
Thanks a lot for your very informative description. I am needing to do that job myself because the heater is not blowing warm. done everything I can think of to fix it but it seems as if the control door is not working or the heater core has so much stuff in front of it air cant get through it. Thanks again, Charlie

My reason for removing the dash is for the eradication of dead rat and fecal odor. I have the dash off already, and now realize I need to remove the heater/AC core to track down the odor. I appreciate this thread, man. this is the first time I have attempted a rebuild, so I'm going through everything anyway.
