Wiring Issue
hello, i have searched and cannot find any good info for wiring a new head deck unit into my dakota.
2000 3.9v6 Dakota Extended Cab
originally the dakota had an infinity sound system, a few years ago i had my idiot brother (who i thought would do a good job) wired in a sony deck, alas here recently i acquired a pioneer deck and apparently the connectors i bought to install the deck were not used, the original harness is gone. i am unable to get any sound and memory to the unit. i can get power to it. i understand there is an factory amp, can anyone help me with what wire goes where, i get some diagrams from the net but none have worked.
thank you

There is a factory-installed amp in the passenger's kick panel. You need to connect the blue/white wire on the Pioneer unit to the factory amp remote on wire in the factory radio harness. I believe on your 2000 truck the wire should be green with an orange stripe. This should turn on the amp so you have sound. Pioneer used to only use a solid blue wire for power antenna and remote on, so if that's how your Pioneer is set up use the solid blue wire. If you have a blue/white wire use it for the amp remote on. Either way, it should work. If not you need to check the amp itself and its fuse to be sure it has power, or to be sure your brother did not bypass it at the amp location.

Left Rear (-) Brown/Light Blue
Right front (+) White or Purple
Right front (-) Dark Blue/Red
Right Rear (+) Brown/White
Right Rear (-) Brown/Orange
Hope that helps.

ok i got everything wired up, however i get sound from all speakers except my front left. i also do not have a dark green/white and the brown/white, and brown orange, are apparently blue/white, and blue/orange. there is a black/yellow wire that has no mate and the orange which i assume is the dimmer wire.
I don't know the color codes from memory. The black/yellow and orange wires you mention must be at the radio location, and they are both illumination wires. Tape them up securely to avoid any short circuit/blown fuse problems.
Best thing for you to do is remove the door panel for the speaker that is not working. You need to check the wires at the midrange/woofer location in the bottom of the door, not the tweeter. Be sure to reconnect the tweeter wires when you are done checking the speaker. You can compare the wire colors at the speaker to the colors you have at the radio to identify which is the correct speaker wires to use, or in this case the correct speaker-level input to the factory amp. If you have blue/white and blue/orange at the radio harness, the blue/white is + and blue/orange is negative. You should have the same color wires at the speaker location as behind the radio.
While you have the door panel off you can check to be sure the speaker is plugged in and the wire is in good shape. You can also use an ohm meter to test the speaker to be sure it's not blown. If you have no ohm meter, just connect the speaker with a short piece of speaker wire to a known working audio source, like one of the other speaker leads in your truck, or maybe a boom box or home stereo or radio system. You may have a blown speaker causing the problem, especially given the age of the truck.
Check it out and post back if you need more help.

again, thank you for your quick response, i know all the speakers have been replaced as there are 2 sony in the front and 2 pioneer in the back, the speakers worked before i pulled the sony deck. i will try this and message back if nay further issues, again thank you for your help.
oh, the tweeters were removed when the stereo was upgraded (why i have no idea)

sorry for the delay in an update. im still not getting front left sound, i was told in the past that the factory amp may be an issue (i was told it was going out.) would you happen to know the color codes for the wiring leaving the factory amp to just bypass the amp completely?
firstly, the root issue was having the speakers replaced without comparing them. This changes alot of electrical numbers through the system due to a change in resistance.
I have a DEH-2*00 head unit wired to the factory amp and factory speakers/tweeters, and also added a second amp and 10" Sub. I can turn the volume to 35 wih zero distrotion, and 42 and be under 10% distortion at higher frequencies. I have treble at +5, mid at +3, and bass at +5.
In your case, I would say run your own new electrical and bypass the factory amp.
