that 5.9 is for the quad cab awd's not the r/t's too i believe well almost know for sure lol

Ya that small one I'm sure is not the R/T. But I bet the link I provided is for the R/T.
Especially the single cab and short bed trucks are light they can handle more out back.

Dakota 5.9 V-8 Tow limit 8,500lbs
(a) Requires 3.9:1 axle ratio.
(b) Requires four-speed automatic overdrive transmission.

I noticed a 3.21-1 axle ratio for the V6 and V8 with manual trans. What years were these in? My truck has plenty of power and I would love to lower my ratio for better MPG. the only thing I ever tow is my ATV.

Swapping 3.55s or 3.90s for 3.21s is not lowering your ratio, that would be raising your ratio. And it would actually make for worse gas milage in the city and back country highways, but better on the interstate.
