3.9 roars, then doesn't
It's hard to explain so i added a 5 second video from this morning, but sometimes when I start my truck, it has a horrible ROAR to it and it won't go much above maybe 2500 without sounding like it wants to throw a rod. I shut it off and started it a second time, and it still roared...finally on the 3rd start it sounded normal again.

This is how it normally sounds:

At the end of that second video, here's what the loud bang was- I bottomed out on the tires.

Without watching the video (at work). It sounds like the clutch fan. They usually make more noise when the engine is first stared then it loosens up and quiets down until it gets hot enough to engage the fan for more cooling.
that's what i'm hoping..but it's very inconsistent of when it does it...maybe once or twice a month....
i maybe heard my fan on my v6 kick in 4 times this past summer.. from my understanding the cooling system on our trucks does too good of a job. either way. i would say its safe to say thats your fan clutch kicking in. dont sweat it
Well if you consider the radiator is like 30" square and gets 100% airflow.... well yea. lol.

Mine just recently started making that sound maybe once every two months on cold mornings and stops by the time I make it down the street.
Is this something I should worry about? Does this mean I need to replace the fan clutch?

99% sure its the clutch fan. You're not the only one to hear it. Many dakotas (and other vehicles for that matter) do it. Not a big deal.
Hahah oh wow, I don't miss it taking 11 seconds to go 0-60.
