Chrome Clad Wheels
Since new my 04' Hemi Lmtd. durango has had a slight vibe in the front end. Took it back to the dealer at about 10K miles - they balanced the tires and it was perfect - for about 40 miles. Then rightback to the same slight vibe. I have heard elsewhere that some have had problems getting these rims balanced. Anybody else? I am approaching 50K and would like to avoid buying new tires and have the same problem. I would rather buy new rims and tires if thereseems to be a problem with these rims.
Put a dial indicator on the rim and turn it. If it's runout is less than .008 or so, you should have no problem balancing the wheel. Check the runout on the side and on the edge of the rim lip. Also, clean the hub and the back of the wheel where it mounts with a wire brush, and torque the bolts to around 100 ft-lbs. It's rare that the problem is with the wheel, especially a factory wheel, it's usually the tire. If the wheel is true and the tire is out-of-round, you can always get the tire trued.
