Default 4th Gear performance at low RPM's

I have a 3.7 v6 in my SLT...when just going easy around town (and even on the hwy between 40-50mph, if the veh is in 4th gear (low rpm's between 1-2k), the Durango seems to be "missing", for lack of a better description. I can equate it to perhaps going too slow in a manual shift car, where the engine rpms are too low, but this seems odd in an automatic.

Anyone with any ideas? When it drops to 3rd after slowing too much, it goes away, but I'm still thinking it should not be missing like this should it? It's almost as if the engine wants to stall.

Thanks.

Default RE: 4th Gear performance at low RPM's

My first suggestion would be to check all the fluid levels (I know, you shouldn't have to worry about this type of thing with a new vehicle, but you never know).

Maybe also check the air filter, fuel filter and throttle body for any clogs. One thing to keep in mind, some how the ideal setting (or low RPM setting) may be set wrong (if you want because this is a new vehicle ask the dealer to check all these for you).

Second, I would check with anyone else with the same setup as yours to see if they have the same problem.

If so, then there is probably a design flaw.

If not, then take it back to the dealer as many times as it takes to get it fixed. If they won't help, take it to a different dealer (if you have one close by). Be persistent, but not rude. If you're not satisfied ask to speak to the manager.
