Spontaneously shifting into 4 low
Okay, yesterday while driving down the road at 65 mph (the posted speed limit) on the way to work my 2005 dodge Durango suddenly shifted into 4 low (nearly crapped my pants when it suddenly lurched) and the 4wd service light came on. It switched back after a few seconds and I drove the rest of the way to work under 30 MPH and it was fine. After work it drove home just fine. This morning I took it for a drive around the block and as I was slowing to turnit went into 4 low again briefly then back again.
I have an appointment to have it looked at, at the local dodge dealership on Monday (soonest they can get it in).
Three questions?
What is the likely problem?
And is it likely to be covered by the extended warranty?
If it isn’t covered how much can I expect to have to pay to fix the problem?

Russell:
Can't imagine that happening at 65mph. Did the tach peg?? I know that in my 01, around 30mph is a whole lot of rpms due to the very low gearing in 4 low.
At any rate,I have read if a few cases of this, but so far, did not see a firm fix listed for it. Lots a parts changin going on though.
Since this is powertrain related, it should be covered under your 7/70 powertrain warranty. How many miles on the rig?? And who is the service contract through??If the contract is DC Maxcare or Advancedcare you should be ok.
