While my swap experience was associated with my previous 01 D, I can offer this:

It makes sense that drive shaft lengths would be different between the NV 144 and the NV 244 case because the 144 case is shorter.

When I swapped in an NV 244 in place of the NV 233 case on the 01, the case size appeared to be the same and thus the oem rear shaft worked fine.

In the same vein, the AWD T case equipped 01-03 D's in some cases had the smaller 8.25 rear end. My 01 was was a part time 4x4 originally so it came with the 9.25 rearend.

Again, no issues after swapping in the NV 244 in place of the 233.
