Congrats on the find. As we all know, right the SUV market is a buyers market as they are having trouble even givng them away due to fuel prices.I took a tour of the Newark, DE Durango plant in October, and they build 320 of them a day.Their back 40 looked like a sea of Durangos in a huge outdoor showroom.

Since you do tow frequently, Definately look for a D with the 3.92 gears. You should see this on the window sticker as an option, and there chould also be a sticker in the glovebox (or behind it) that tells what gear it has.

The dealer can also run the VIN and give you a printout of just how it was built.

Also, you should be able to know just by popping the hood which version of 4.7 is in there. If there are no actual plug wires, it willl be the older one. If you see a good sized coil pack with a plug wire coming out and going elsewhere, then you have the new one. My bet is these are the older ones which gives you a good bargaining chip.

n8ech,

Your right, SUV's are not selling like hot cakes right now. No one wants to give me a decent trade-in on my Yukon right now . Can't blame them. I'm sure that these 2007 Durango's are all the older design 230hp V8 as Wishbone decribed in the new 2007 he's driving. I haven't got to the dealer's lot yet. It's about 30 miles away. However, I went to the Dodge website, and it appears that the 3.92 ratio is not available with the 4.7, only with the Hemi. The 4.7 includes the 3.55 ratio, and if you attempt to change that on the site, it pops in the Hemi option. Consequently, it must be the 3.55 ratio or nothing in the units I'm looking at---all are 4.7L V8 SLT's. Wish I would have kept the window sticker from my 2002 Ram that had the 4.7 Magnum engine. It pulled very well, but I just don't remember the ratio.

Fwiw, my new '07 was made in April and has the older style 4.7L. It does not say on the window sticker what gears it has which is odd. Though I know they are 3.55's which are what I wanted.
