Any problems towing with 3:55 and Hemi?
I actually have a brand new 2008 Chrysler Aspen, but the Aspen forums are almost non-existent. Basically the Durango and Aspen are the same vehicle, so I figured I would get a better response over here. My 2008 Aspen came with the Hemi, but no tow package. The website says the Aspen/Durango with a Hemi and 3:55 will tow around 8650lbs. I am towing approx 4850lbs and will be definately going into mountain areas (east cost, not west coast mountains). Also, I have heard the back end sinks, but that this issue had been resolved on the new models?
I put in a K&N and the motor is strong and accelerates very quickly to say the least, so, I don't think hp/torque is an issue, but will the 3:55 hold me back? I didn't want the high rear as I only tow less than 10% of the time. I am on the fence also with weigh distribution. I figure why spend the money if it is not required, but if the rear end sinks, I may have no choice.

Welcome to the forum. I tow a litle over 3000#, 6 people, and extra gearwith my 2007 Aspen without any problems or the back end dropping (but I ahve the tow pkg). This is less than what you will tow, but for me I have not had to modify anything to keep from shooting headlights into the trees. The Chrysler forum isn't bad for the Aspen, only about 10% of the activity that you can find here, but at least you can pick up on what some of the other Aspen people have learned. Honestly tho, I have not found any other forum with this much activity, knowledge, or people willing to help.
I tow 7k lbs Haulmark tandum enclosed trailer with my 04 Durango Limited 3:55swith no issueat El Cajon pass (I believe 6% grade). My trailer loaded with dirt bike, ATVs air compressor, generator, big tool box and cabinet...
