Default EGR..Check Engine Light Help

Hi,

Have a 2005 Durango ST with 28,000 on it. My check engine light came on the other day, car rode fine though. Stopped at Auto Zone with a code reading of EGR valve and a few options as to what that could be. Dropped off at garage a day or two later, and the dam light went off. Garage had it for 2 days no light came on, and they got same code. Garage told me it should be covered under manuf. warranty, but since I am second owner, Dodge will NOT cover it..that is a long story in itself. Ok, so garage tells me it is a total pain in *** to change this egr thing, and since light has not come on, just drive it. Wouldn't you know it, dam light came onon my way home from work! Car is still driving fine.

My question is...what if I don't have this repaired right away, am I doing damage to the car? Will I just stop in the middle of the road one day? I have ZERO mechanical aptitude, and it seems that this is an ongoing problem with this vehicle from some research I have done, even more of a reason to be pissed as to why dodge won't cover it. I will eventually get it fixed because that little light is annoying, but any help from anyone who may have encountered similar problem, or has knowledge of the importance of this egr thing would be greatly appreciated!

Default RE: EGR..Check Engine Light Help

My CEL is on but I have 100,000 on it, and no damage (YET). It reads as a high voltage from EGR. I put in fuel injector cleaner in or run 93 Shell gas. The gas shouldn't matter unless you have a HEMI (need to run 89 octane). If your truck only has 28K and it is a 05 or newer your are still covered. Take it to a dealer that knows something. If it is certified used by Chrysler LLC then it is covered for 80,000mi. Bottom line is don't the dealer give you a line of SH*T. The probably just don't want to fix it because you didn't buy it from them.
