Default C Clips

I've been reading on the Ram forum where guys are changing their rear diff. fluid and when they take the cover off they find busted up c clips. Seems to be a pretty common problem over there. Do the Durangos have the same thing ?

The Durango rear ends that are equipped with the Anti-Spin or Limited Slip carrier have the clips also. IIRC, these are the clips that keep the clutch packs in place. Over time, they seem to get brittle and break ending up on the bottom of the housing. My D does not have the AS carrier, and this is the only positive in that regard.

So do all awd's have them? If not how to I tell if I have a limted slip or not? The manuel says to change rear axle fluid every 15k which seem pretty often to me but I will do it to maintain lifetime warranty. If mine has the clips, I want to check them then.

The Gen 2 Durangos 4x4s were not offered with the limited slip carrier as a factory option, however I believe the 4x2 models were. If yours is 4x4/awd, you do not have to worry about the clips as you don't have them.

To see for yourself, look behind the driver side rear wheel at the axle tube. There should be a small white label there saying the axle ratio (either 3.55 or 3.92) and the phrase "open carrier". This means no LS.
