Default Question - Cleaning Engine

Ok so I got a great response on my previous question regarding the EGR Valve, thanks alot! Another question, well more liek advice, is what is the best way to clean the engine. I have heard many ways, spray it with a hose, dont spray it with a hose, dont clean it, etc.. I am really quiet particular on that. I hate things being dirty on my car, and well I want to clean the engine. I hate all the dirt n grim that collects on it. Thanks in advance.

Most people I know use Simple green (and so do I)....spray your engine, let it sit for a while.
Start the engine and hose everything off. Never had an issue....

Ah, ok cool. So you can in fact get the engine wet. Thats what I was worried about. I didnt know if it would short out anything (batt, distrib, alt, etc.. ) electrical.

Thanks!

I wouldn't aim directly into the alternator or the battery since you could theoretically cause a short!
