4.7 or hemi?
I am looking at buying a 2005-2006 durango. Is it necessary to get the hemi if I don't plan on towing? Does the 4.7 have good power? I am more concerned with knowing that when I pull out to pass I can? Thanks for any suggestions.
I pondered this thought as well when I was shopping and got one with the 4.7 and I don't think it is under powered at all. Sure the extra 100 ponies and the MDS would be nice but mine gets up and goes down the road just fine without them. Just my opinion.

I rented a 4.7l Gen2 for vacation and had a nice long chance to compare it to my 5.9L Gen 1.

Thanks. After driving on the highway and around town I love the 4.7. Works great. One other question is it is AWD and 4lock. No one seems to know what 4 lock is. Or can explain it to me. Any ideas. It is the nv144 trans. I believe. Any good for mud? Thanks I appreciate it. TJL The 4.7 you baught does it have 4lock or 4hi and 4lo?
Hey Freddybeach, mine also has the AWD and 4Lock. The best way to describe it is that in AWD it is rear wheel drive till it senses a certain amount of slip and then transfers up to 50% of the power to the front axle to help. In the 4 Lock setting it locks the front and rear axles in together for low traction situations. It is not a Low gear setting like some have just locks the 4wd in till you switch it back to AWD. I am used to Jeeps which gave me many options on the transfer case but I can live with this. I haven't done any mudding so I can't answer your other question.
Good luck.
