Default 2005 Durango rear pinion seal leak

While getting an oil change on my 2005 Durango, I was told my rear pinion seal was leaking. I have only seen a few small drops in my driveway. Is this something I should get repaired right away or should I just check and add more fluid?

Do I need a special fluid? I don't know much about vehicle repair so any advice you can give would be appreciated. I just don't want to get taken by a shop.

Thanks

The seal can be replaced by removing the yoke from the differential. Basicly, remove the drive shaft and then remove the Yoke and replace the seal.

If you have limited slip gearing then you need to go to the dealer and get a little bottle of Friction Modifier to add to it. Either way, you want 80W-90 in Full Synthetic as replacement lubricant. Lift the rear cover and drop the old fluid, reseal with a new gasket/RTV sealant and tighten it back down. Install the friction modifier with limited slip. Insert your finger into the hole and make sure that the fluid is just below the fill hole.

Your done.

As for getting it done right now...... Get it when you can, just keep an eye on the fluid level.
