05 D spits fuel not included in recalls
The last 2 times I filled up, when the pump shut off fuel spat out of the filler neck, airiated and under pressure. I found there are 2 recalls for this issue, however my vehicle is excluded from the vin list. Called Chrysler Corp., they refuse to take care of the problem, and say I should bring it to the dealer on my dime. I subsequently filed a complaint with the NHTSA about this.
I'm sure it's some sort of venting problem, as it appears what is happenning is, while fuel is being pumped into the tank, the air in the tank is not able to escape, therefore the tank is pressurizing while fuel is added, then when the pump shuts off dropping pressure, the result is instant equalization of pressure, air rushes out carring fuel with it. Sort of like putting some water in a balloon, inflating it, then letting it go.
This said, I'm going to inspect the vent line, and would appreciate any input, as I've heard that there may be a check valve involved, but I fail to see a check valve in the diagrams of the fuel tank and system that I have in the factory shop manual I purchased from dodge.
I will definately post my findings, results and a detailed fix for this issue, when I solve the problem.
