Engine Died
Hi Group, The Hemi in our 04 durango died without apparent reason just at 100K. We will have to put a new engine in it. I have the obvious choices, new hemi, rebuilt hemi, but I was wondering how creative I might be able to be. I'd like to investigate putting a Cummins deisil engine in. Does anyone know if this is impossible, I think it will mean new fuel and exhaust systems. Has anyone done this? Does anyone know the complications? The dealership wants a fortune to replace it with a new Hemi which was my first choice when I thought the warranty covered it.

Thanks for your response fascistfaction. I understand that I have a number of options. I really like the Cummins Diesel in my RAM and since I have to replace with something I wonder if anyone knows if it is reasonable to put that engine in the Durango. I purchased the SUV with intentions of towing a car trailer, horse trailer and fairly large camping trailer. Before I bought it I was informed that the Hemi would have no problems towing any thing but since then others have told me that; yes it can tow but it is very taxing on the engine and I would be better served using my pick-up. But the family dosen't fit in the RAM. So again, does anyone know anything about the switch I propose - putting a Cummins diesel in an 04 Durango?

I just got a rough estamite from a local company and my wife took the call. I don't think I can sell it now. But thanks, if I get anywhere at home I can bring it up again over there. Wish me luck.
