Default Durango Won't Start With Regular Key

My mom has a 2005 Durango that has started giving her problems. When she tries to start it with the key she has used from day one it won't start. But when she uses her spare key it starts fine. There is no wear or tear on the key, and it hasn't been damaged. What could be going on? Any idea?

There are a few posts about this as the chip in the key will need to be reflashed by the dealer,

Even if she isn't using the buttons? She just puts the key in the ignition.

The key has a security chip embedded in it. You could try to reset the PCM by disconnect the negative terminal of the battery for a few minutes. You can repost this in the secod generation Durango section as this is the general forum or try this link:
