Performance Upgrades for 04 Durango CAI & Exhaust
First of all, hello to everyone on DF. Just signed up for an account here, but I'm not new to forums. I am, however, new to Dodge vehicles, and don't really know that much about auto parts.
I just bought a 2004 Dodge Durango Limited 5.7L HEMI. I love it. I'd like to upgrade a couple of things. What can be done to improve HP & Fuel Economy? I'm not whining about the mpg I see, I knew what I was getting into when I selected this vehicle. I've just been told that some performance upgrades (which I'm more interested in) can also improve miles per gallon. What are these upgrades?
I've seen that upgrades are kind of hard to come by for my setup. Here's some of the ones I can find if anyone can suggest one over the other:
Air Intakes:[*] K&N 63-1094[*] K&N 77-1539KD[*] AEM Brute Force Air Induction System?[*] AirRAID Air Intake System[*] Volant 32490 - 16957
Exhaust: (I believe each company only has one option for my setup)[*] MagnaFlow Option[*] Gibson Option
The other things I've seen info on is a JET and Redline product which I've been told to stay away from. Any help from people with exp. would be great. What's going to give the biggest boost in HP? Any microtuners yet or "Superchips" that will work with my Durango? I have done searches, it's just REALLY difficult since I don't really know what brands to trust.

i can't speak for the other cai's, but i have the volant and i was very impressed with the sound and performance, and the look is awesome. it sounds like i had my exhaust done. as for the exhaust, i'm probably going with magnaflow because i've used there products on my mustangs and liked them. the only other exhaust system i lknow of is flowmaster. i've contacted superchips about a microtuner, and they told me spring, but i still have yet to see one. i contemplated a jet chip also but was told to stay away. if you want a cheap fix and don't care about the check engine light, get one of those power modules from e-bay. they splice in between the iat and the computer. i did this and gained 2 tenths on my 1/4 mile, but i got sick of the check engine light so i disconnected it. i am just going to wait for the tuner. hope this helps.
I too am new to this forum........I know it's been awhile since you have asked these questions but if you haven't picked a CAI unit yet check out this set up from AFE. I have one on my Rango and it works & sounds awsome.
i also have a flowmaster but mine is a catback with a 70 series. i i'm very happy with it.

I installed the Magnaflow catback this weekend & it sounds pretty good also. I also installed the Volant CAI along with the Hypertech Power Programmer III
. Now my D feels like a totally different vehicle, all these mods made a significant difference & I'm totally pleased with the results.
