Default aftermarket stereo

Hello all,

I tried searching here and all over the interwebs but could not come up with a definite answere. I have an 06 durango with the bottom of the barrel stock cd player WITHOUT the premium system. I have found a wiring harness for my aftermarket cd player but it is not the can bus adapter. All I need is to have rca outputs of the head unit. I am not replacing with a navagation unit yet and don't know when I would be but would really like to. I have my current alpine cd player so I was just going to use that.

Is it really necessary to have the can bus when replacing with a non navigation cd player? I also do not have steering wheel controls for the stereo just cruise control.

Thanks

if you have the basic audio system, all the can bus adapter will do is give you RAP (retained acc. power) as well as acc. since there is no "switched" wire in the harness like on pre-can dodges.

retail for the part is about 50 bucks, you should be able to find it online for about half. I would recommend doing it the right way and using the part, otherwise you will have to run an acc wire, and the radio will not power on/off the same way as the factory one does.

*UPDATE*

Hello all,

Just figured I'd post saying I bought a kit off ebay $22 after shipping dash mount, wiring harness, and antenna adapter. It works great except had to run an acc turn-on wire from the fuse box to the stereo. Seems the turn-on lead at the harness relies on the can bus system. It all works great.

One problem is though that the top portion on the dash mount makes flipping the faceplate down hard. Other than that it works great.

Just a reminder this is for a standard cd player in a non-premium stereo equiped 06 Durango. I Imagine it is exactly the same for 04-06 and 07-up can't be too much different. With running the acc wire from the #3 fuse spot in the box under the dash it retains your power after key is removed and shuts off after door is opened.

Thanks for your input vdubnick.
