Default P2175 5.7L 04 Durango & ALTERNATOR ISSUE?

Hello, after testing my durango simulating traffic:
  • Driving shift
  • lights ON
  • brakes ON
  • A/C ON
after 45 min I got the following issues:
  • Check engine ON with P2175.
  • Alternator malfunction light ON.
I went to autozone to test BATTERY & ALTERNATOR and the computer said they are OK!, so i erased the code...

could you explain to me what happened?
Do i need to fix something?

I really need to trust my beautyfull durango, my babys depend on it when traveling..

Size: 1.4 KB NEVER EVER NEVER let the D sit for longer than 10 minutes without moving (winter heat up, summer cool down, etc.) Did you read somewhere that it was a good idea to simulate it like that? If so, cancel your subscription to that magazine. They are nuts.

The way the trans lines are designed on our Dodge transmissions require neutral or in gear to properly flow. Let me know how long that transmission lasts now.

Also, the alt does not get enough RPMs to drive all that stuff just sitting at idle. No wonder all the lights were on. You alt "revs" just like RPMs do. More revs, more power. You were straining the alternator just to keep up for that long.

There is no reason to simulate traffic for 45 minutes at idle. You would NOT run the AC, not do a lot of things if you were stuck in traffic at a stand still for 45 minutes. In fact, you would likely turn off the vehicle.

In the end, if there was nothing wrong before you test, let's pray nothing is wrong after that abuse now. It all is fine, all will most likely remain fine. Simple physics. Unless acted upon by a variable, everything is likely to stay just as it was... fine.

Thanks, now, i guess im gonna have to save for a new trany becouse i live in southern California, and traffic here is insane, i.E. i have to cross the intl border everyday, it´s like 1 mile lane and it tooks like 1 hour, some times more to get trhu...
so, everybody here drives like that, D and brakes for long.....

there´s where i notice my durango was starting to overheat , so i´m doing troubleshooting to fix it, the only way to know if i did is simulating the same thing crossing the intl border....

You never mentioned in the OP you were overheating. First mention was just now.

How much service has been done on that radiator? Last flush? Age of fluid? Age of stat? Type of stat?

Just R&R that coolant system IN FULL and you should be good to go. Just promise no more foolish sim testing without asking the pros first.
