So my 05 Durango has the reverse proximity sensors in the bumper, and I have found that they are next to useless. They will beep and chime all the time. The second I put the truck into reverse, it starts beeping away, and sometimes going from a beep to a solid chime when there is nothing behind the truck at all.

1. Is this normal for these to be this inaccurate? I personally do not rely on this system (former truck driver here), and its annoying when I have people in the truck with me, pop it into reverse to leave a parking spot etc, and they say "What the hell is that beeping?" only to have me say, "Its my malfunctioning proximity sensor" followed by their reply "Wow, thats annoying" - I know this isnt a Lexus or Mercedes with a much more powerful proximity system, but man, this one is bad...

2. Can this be disabled? This way I dont have to listen to this everytime I back out of any parking spot?

 

THere must be a sensitivity level as mine will beep after I back into something,

My Toyota FJ Crusier has a very nice set of rear sensors that works well. I would expect nothing less from any system, be it Dodge's or others. Go have it looked at via the dealer.

Considering this car is out of factory warranty, I wont pay to have it diagnosed. I guess I will have to look into how to disable the warning chime.

 

You can increase your personal liability by disabling a factory safety feature. Not the best of ideas.
