About to trade my ram in for a durango.
Hoss:
Glad your considering a Durango. That IS a nice looking Rak truck you have there though!
How come you want to get away from it?
Any way, 04-05 5.7 engines had issues with valve train so, you will want to listen very carefully for any engine noise. Although the 4.7 is a great motor, my second D has the Hemi, and I have no regrets.
MDS or cylinder shutdown (from 8 to 4) started in 2006 for the Durango. It will give you another mpg or 2 on the hwy unless you always drive 80mph, or are towing.
04-05 models also had the 7/70 powertrain warranty. So, if you would be the 2nd owner and have enough miles till 70k to make it worth while, be sure to get the 7/70 transferred to your name. Will cost you $150.
A week after I brought home my 04 with 53k, both outer CV boots disintegrated. Due to the 7/70, the fix cost me $100 instead of around $500.
Other will surely chime in to give you a good baseline to work from.

I think the 2008-2009 5.7L have 370 horsepower compared to 340 for the 2004-2006 models due to valve timing. I had a first generation durango before my 2007 and I wish the third generation was a mid-size SUV instead of the crossover. The 2005 had a recall on the dash cluster that posed a fire threat and some 2006 (maybe 2005) have a gas fill up problem where gas overflows during filling. I would check out that thread and advise against that year although I know a 2007 (same as mine) had a problem, but mine has been trouble free the last 3-1/2 years,

The reason I'm selling my truck is money, I'm cutting back everywhere, even selling a few firearms. I really love my truck, it's been dead reliable and is a solid good looking truck, but I need less money going out the door each month. Might start saving up for a ring to upgrade the girlfriend of 3 years.
So, I'd like to think I'm upgrading in some way when giving up a great truck like this and diesels in this body style are still out of the ballpark I want to spend so instead of trading it in for an older and/or lesser version I'm looking at something with more interior room that could come in handy sometime in the future as well.
