Question 06 Durango Hemi w/ Factory Tow Package: Brake Controller question

I have an 06 D LTD, Hemi, factory Tow Package, and Class IV factory receiver hitch. The rear receiver has the round and small rectangular plug. I am buying a 22' Travel Trailer, 4,500 lbs and 400 lb hitch weight. I will install a Fastway E-2 1k/10k Round Bar Stabilizer hitch.

Question: do I still need a Brake Controller, such as Prodigy-2 or do I have a brake controller installed as part of the factory Tow Package?

Asked differently, will my brake pedal activate the trailer brakes without adding a separate Brake Controller?

Thanks.

the trailer dealer can install the controller and "should" have the correct plug that will go directly into the pre wired brake controller connector located under the dash (your durango is ready wired to accept a plug and play brake controller....see owners manual for specifics). Definetly DO NOT attempt to pull the trailer without the brake controller. Your D brake system is designed to stop the D, trailer brakes are designed to stop the trailer, both operating in conjunction is the ONLY safe way to tow....

On my 06 there is a blue rectangular 4-prong female plug mounted to the side of the fuse box located just above the park brake. When I was at the RV store they showed me the Prodigy-2 and the Dodge adapter plug that looked like the male counterpart to the blue plug above.

So I guess the answer is that the factory Tow Package gives you the wiring but not the ability to activate the trailer brakes unless you install a brake controller.

Thanks all for your answers. I bought a Prodigy-2 with the Dodge plug from Camping World for $119. Seemed like a good sale price and easy to self install since I have the plug for it.

So much to learn being a newbie to towing a travel trailer!
