Thoughts on this Durango?
Mark:
While my first D was an 01 and I do have a soft spot for the Gen 1, my current 04 Hemi SLT is a great ride also.
The 4.7 engine is a good motor. Don't let that bother you unless you will be towing a lot.
As far as price goes, I think you find quite a bit of variance depending on where you are. Areas like my Ohio with its snow belt will command a better price as well as places with lots of sun where folks want to tow boats, etc.
Being in Ohio, it makes no sense to me to own an SUV that is not 4x4, and I have learned to love the AWD function standard on the Gen 2.
No more spinning wheels whilst driving in wet weather. All that 4x4 hardware is working for you 24/7.
Despite what some will tell you, the economy difference between part time 4x4 and AWD is less than 2mpg. To me, the extra traction and confidence in the vehicle is well worth it.

I will now be a permanent fixture on the forums...bought the D! Didnt get the exact price i was looking for, but it was close. They also fixed all of the small things I wanted them to, except the the DVD player. Im a little worried about how the gas mileage will affect my wallet coming from a Nissan Maxima...but i guess i knew what i was getting into. Next step - get some running boards put on, and get an aftermarket cd player with sirius hooked up.
Wanted to thank all that replied, and also the board in general...alot of great information!

Welcome to the fray, my friend.
Did you have a pre-purchase inspection done, or at the very least, one immediately after purchase? Whats wrong with the DVD player, and what were the little things that they fixed?
Maximas are nice cars, but you'll enjoy the extra size and 4x4 of the Durango.

Congats on the purchase, no body mentioned that sometimes when youfill up the durango to full, it spits out gas. Never happened to me. Just watch for it so you wont be surprised.
Also we need some pics !!! And let the mods begin !!!

I took it to a body shop who found 1 little scratch and nothing else. My mechanic spent about an hour looking it over. He said new plugs, new brakes, coolant hose needs replaced, and a new o2 sensor (CE light was on). Dealer going to do all the work and I will take it back to mechanic before they are authorized to cash my check.
As far as the dvd player, it powers on but the device that holds and spins the disc does not stay on the shaft. It just drops, so there is a "no disc" error. Will look into it later I guess.

But if you have no DVD player, how will you go on long trips?!?!
Just kidding.
I remember the gold ol' days, where the family talked on the trip for entertainment, as opposed to throwing in a movie. However, I don't have any kids either, so maybe my viewpoint would change if they were involved.
