'04 radio mystery. HELP!
I thought I was smarter than this...but I can't turn the radio on! My '04 Durango Limited has the normal 6-disc receiver unit that has been working perfectly. It also has the integrated DVD system. Today the kids were in the car while I got the mail. The car was turned off and the radio went off when I opened the driver's door as usual. (and I locked it with the remote). When I got back in and started the car the radio was off. Odd, because I always leave it on and let the ignition switch control it. However, the DVD player resumed playing the movie they were watching. But, pushing the volume button would not turn the radio back on as it should. They told me that one of them had climbed into the front to get a book, but swear they didn't touch anything. Right. Is there some mystery switch I don't know about they could have hit? Annoyingly, the owner's book does not provide a schematic of what fuse does what and none are labeled 'radio.' Does anyone know what could be a main power source/fuse for the radio and how to reset it? Everything else, including the DVD player, works fine. Repeated attempts, with the key in both run and accessory modes, failed to get any life out of the receiver. I'm stumped!
Dodgem:
Does the radio still display the time even though it wont come on? Does the little VES symbol till appear when the video system is in use?
If so, there must be power to the radio. I agree that Chrysler not including a fuse diagram with the owners manual is a PIA!
I have also come to learn though that a lot of interior items get their power from the cluster which is unusual.
The cars of today are light years ahead of the cars we were used to even 10 years ago let alone 20 or 30.
I was having a problem with the night lights on my HVAC console not working. You would think a fuse or loose connection on the rear of it right?
Turned out that power for those lights comes from the cluster, and the connector for that on the rear of the cluster was not totally seated.

SOLUTION!! I tried operating the DVD unit again and it worked fine. The MODE button on it brings up four tabs: AM FM CD DVD. Choosing the FM tab, it showed that a station was engaged...but still the receiver display was completely dead. Then, while the unit was on, I checked the headphones the kids were using...and touching the SCAN button on one of them instantly turned the radio back on and transmitted the audio through the 'phone. The little stinker simply pressed the scan button to an unsupported location when she took the headphones off! (You wouldn't think it would completely deaden the radio screen, but it does) I knew getting that gadget was too indulgent. Thanks for the helpful suggestions! PS: A web search revealed the radio system fuse is in the kickpanel box, location F7.
