Default Front Diff. oil questions

I have a question as to the front differential oil for my 2005 AWD Durango. The manual calls for 75-90, but the last time it was in the Dodge shop, they put 75-140 in the front and back. What weight should I use in the front? Also, synthetic or not for the front? I’m thinking Royal Purple, any suggestions? I’ve had problems with the pinion bearings going out so I’d like to stay on top of it. Thanks!

75-90 is correct if that is what the manual says. The other works and the shop was lazy. Personally, no value in Royal Purple, especially in the diffs.

I have an 06 durango limited and it calls for 75 90 in the front and either 75 90 or 75 140 in the rear. Mine is also awd. I just recently put royal purple in the front but I would strongly recommend amsoil. Read the reviews and tests done on Amsoil and you will find that nothing compares. Have fun doing the rear diff. Total pain int he butt.

Guys:

I have run both Mobil 1 and the Royal Purple. Both will do a fine job. Synthetic is THE way to go. I ran Mobil 1 in the diffs of my 01 D, and when I removed it, it looked and smelled like it was brand new.

I currently have RP in my 04, so will see how that survives and report back when I change it.

Save yourself the trouble, and pump the old out and the new in. No reason to pull the covers unless you suspect trouble.
