Changing the coolant
I have gotten out smarted again. I drained the coolant from the drain plug at the bottom of the radiator and only 1.5 gallons bled out. The manual says that the system holds 16.6 quarts, so draining 6 quarts isn't everything. I assume that I only drained the coolant that was in the radiator, but not the rest of the system. What am I not doing right?

I usually like to pull the lower hose from the radiator end. That usually lets things drain a bit faster and more completely.
Still, there is a lot of piping that will not drain unless you flush the system especially if you have the rear heat.
I flush with water until no more AF is coming out, then go back in will full strength AF and fill as needed.

You will get a third to a half out of a hose-drop drain. Unless it looks terrible, refill with fresh and redo on a 18-24 month schedule and that is all you have to do. No need to fret about every last drop in the block, cores, etc.
